Alex Thomson Racing is the company which organises and manages every aspect of Alex’s competitive campaigns – from the preparation of the race boats to the pr, promotion and speaker activities – and which enables him to compete at the highest international level. Its registered name is ATR International LLP.

It was established in 2003, in partnership with his mentor and close friend, Sir Keith Mills, (founder of the new British Americas Cup team, the NECTAR customer loyalty programme, and deputy chairman of the London 2012 committee) and is run by Managing Director, Tanya Brookfield.

In 2004 the team secured international fashion company, Hugo Boss as Alex’s title sponsor and the current commitment runs from January 2006 until December 2009. Although Alex was forced to abandon his first open60 in the Velux 5 Oceans race last year, his new HUGO BOSS race yacht was launched in July, built in the UK by Neville Hutton, project managed by world leader Jason Carrington, and designed by Finot-Conq, designers of the last four Vendée Globe winners. Its on this new HUGO BOSS that Alex will compete with Americas Cup veteran, Andrew Cape in the inaugural Barcelona World Race, starting 11 November 2007.

To support the ongoing campaign, Alex and Hugo Boss have introduced a second race boat, HUGO BOSS II. She is a volvo60 (designed to be raced by a crew as opposed to solo) and will compete in a number of races and events around the world, including the TransPac race and Rolex Sydney Hobart race. HUGO BOSS II is also available for private charter.

In addition, Alex is supported by Volvo and is one of the Team Volvo for Life Ambassadors. He also champions their joint initiative with the RYA – the Volvo RYA Keelboat programme which encourages young sailors to get involved in ‘big boat’ sailing and broaden their horizons and expectations.
